**CHICAGO, May 13, 2026** — Anthropic is rolling out its most ambitious initiative for small business adoption yet: a 10-city "Claude SMB Tour" launching tomorrow with a free, hands-on AI fluency workshop in Chicago. Starting May 14, the tour will deliver live training to 100 local business leaders per stop, targeting the adoption gap that has left small businesses behind despite representing 44% of U.S. GDP.
The announcement, made today alongside the launch of **Claude for Small Business**, marks a strategic pivot from enterprise-focused AI deployment to empowering solo entrepreneurs and local businesses who have historically lacked access to cutting-edge technology training.
Closing the Adoption Gap
While large enterprises race to integrate artificial intelligence into operations, small businesses—the backbone of nearly half the private-sector workforce—have struggled to adopt the same tools. The barriers are clear: cost, complexity, and a lack of tailored guidance.
"Small businesses make up nearly half the American economy, but they've never had the resources of bigger companies," said Daniela Amodei, Co-founder and President of Anthropic. "AI is the first technology that can finally close that gap."
To address this, Anthropic has partnered with Tenex.co and local organizations to host free half-day workshops at ten spring locations: Chicago, Tulsa, Dallas, Hamilton Township, Baton Rouge, Birmingham, Salt Lake City, Baltimore, San Jose, and Indianapolis. Each session limits attendance to 100 participants to ensure personalized instruction, with attendees receiving a one-month Claude Max subscription to begin integrating AI into their daily workflows.
More Than Chat: Workflows Built for Real Business Needs
Claude for Small Business isn't designed as a chatbot. It's a toggle-install integration that embeds AI directly into the software small businesses already rely on: Intuit QuickBooks, PayPal, HubSpot, Canva, DocuSign, Google Workspace, and Microsoft 365.
The package ships with **15 ready-to-run agentic workflows** addressing the most time-consuming tasks business owners face:
- Planning payroll and forecasting cash flow across connected accounts - Closing the month-end books with error-flagging and plain-English P&L generation - Chasing overdue invoices automatically - Analyzing sales campaigns and generating promotional assets in Canva - Triaging leads and tracking contract status in HubSpot and DocuSign
Unlike generic AI tools that stop at conversation, these workflows execute tasks with owner approval before anything posts, sends, or pays. "People run the business," Amodei said. "Claude helps take the late-night work off their plates."
Trust, Transparency, and Training
Acknowledging that half of small business owners cite data security as their primary AI hesitation, Anthropic built Claude for Small Business with strict guardrails. Existing permission structures hold—employees can't access more through Claude than they can in their native tools. By default on Team and Enterprise plans, Anthropic doesn't train on customer data.
Training extends beyond the workshop series. In partnership with PayPal, Anthropic released **AI Fluency for Small Business**, a free on-demand course taught by business owners who've already embedded AI into operations—from Brooklyn's Prospect Butcher Co. to California-based MAKS TIPM Rebuilders. The curriculum covers when to use AI, how to deploy it responsibly, and which tasks benefit most from automation.
A Roadmap for Local Economies
For a public benefit corporation, Anthropic's mission extends beyond product launches. The company is also investing in partnerships with Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) like Accion Opportunity Fund and Pacific Community Ventures, providing them with Claude credits to build tools that help more small businesses access capital.
As the tour kicks off tomorrow in Chicago, the message is clear: AI shouldn't be reserved for those with enterprise resources. With free training, integrated workflows, and a focus on trust, Anthropic is betting that the next wave of innovation won't come from tech giants alone—it'll come from main streets everywhere.
